An individual by looking at the price movements of stock in a particular industry and the volume of trade in those stocks can get a fair idea of the direction in which the stock is headed. An upward trend is called a bullish or positive trend while a downward trend is called a bearish or negative trend. The most prudent way of trading in the stock market is to go with the flow. A sharp increase in the stock price should be looked at with suspicion if it is not supported by adequate volumes. The opposite is also true. An eye must be kept out to spot any sharp decline in prices supported by high volumes as this generally means that soon the market will head south.
Some people invest in stocks in which the big money spinners invest in. Others might invest in companies known for steady growth. The latter may not give huge dividends but there is more security. The former can give big profits in the long term. Many people are of the opinion that without great risk there cannot be great rewards. The market always sends signals about the direction it is heading in. It is up to us whether we pay attention to them or not.
